Description: A gameplay mod for DOOM which adds larger enemy variety as well as new weaponry, ammo and powerups galore. 
Many of the weapons and new powerups are based on ones from the Quake series, hence the name. 
ZX is a further messed-about with version of SilentZorah's prior work QuakeStyle with additional enemies, powerups and weapons as well as a much more DOOM-flavored gameplay style, with the net result of an enhanced DOOM experience by way of customization.
ZX in particular takes inspiration from the Doom, Quake, Unreal and Wolfenstein series from their origins to the present day.

It's been a labor of love for over a decade running at this point, and I refuse to pull a Graf and spoil it all with ChatGPT slop.

Known Bugs: 
-Please drop out of scope mode first (hit zoom or toss a frag with altfire) if you're going to drop a scoped weapon. Otherwise, the view will remain zoomed-in and the player will move at half speed until you go through a zoom-in-and-out routine again.
-Please make sure the server variable SV_FastWeapons is off (It normally *is* off by default) while playing this or any other mod that substantially changes the player's weapons. That variable makes the engine's frame calculations go cuckoo-nanners, seriously screwing up weapon function.
-Certain wall puffs (mainly, the Plasma Beam's) will go a bit goofy when hitting certain walls. This is mostly an engine bug that I don't know how to fix.
-The Plasma Beam and laser rifle are performance hogs sometimes. I unfortunately can't do much to fix it without compromising either weapon function or visuals unacceptably.
-The mod also runs on LZDoom 3.88b, but will display visual aberrations not present in the target port. The 4.11 release of LZDoom fixes this.

I Just Want to Kill:
As easy as it comes. Feeble, slow but numerous monsters, halved damage from all sources and double ammo. For neophytes and stress relief.

I'm Too Young to Die:
The enemies are sparse and weak- in health and attack power- and the player benefits from doubled ammo. For casual runs and FPS beginners.

I Am a Wimp:
This difficulty's analogous to standard DOOM's "Hey, Not Too Rough" but with damage to the player eased a bit. For FPS players who are newbies to Doom or for slightly-tougher casual runs.

Hey, Not Too Rough:
Analogous to standard DOOM's "Hurt Me Plenty". For standard runs.

Hurt Me Plenty:
Take standard DOOM's "Ultra-Violence" and up the monsters' aggro a bit. For reasonably-experienced players.

Ultra-Violence:
Basically standard DOOM's "NIGHTMARE!" with upped aggro and monster health, but without fastmonsters or respawning. For more experienced players.

NIGHTMARE:
Slightly easier enemy spawns than UV, but those enemies that do spawn are far more aggressive than normal and are also faster and tougher with more powerful attacks. For gameplay reasons, the monsters don't respawn and double ammo is enabled. For veteran DOOMers.

Abject Terror:
Yes, there's one step beyond. Take everything NIGHTMARE has but add in even more numerous, fast enemies with even greater health, aggro and attack power.
You don't even get double ammo this time- but those tough monsters stay dead, thankfully. For experts.

I'm Doomed:
Now there's two steps beyond. Take "Abject Terror". Now give monsters double their normal health, and increase damage to the player even more than on said setting. Yeah. Good fuckin' luck, folks. No reward but bragging rights for finishing a mapset on this utter hell of a setting. For masochists.

OK, A Little Rougher:
This mode is one with a little twist. The monsters spawn in the same numbers and places as on "I'm Doomed", "Abject Terror" or "Ultra-Violence", but everything behaves as if it's on "Hey, Not Too Rough". Fun for slaughter runs and best for arsenal maximization. Xterra's preferred skill, and "the way it's meant to be played" in his opinion.

A side note: if you want to play with respawning monsters, pick your desired skill THEN go in to the engine's gameplay options menu (or the ZX Options menu- there are some common gameplay modifier shortcuts there) and enable respawns. By default it's disabled, and we recommend it remain that way. But hey, if you wanna play an ass-bleedingly hard game, go ahead.

Lastly, we'd like to apologize for the lack of appropriate credit in earlier versions of this mod. Xterra's working to fix that issue, as visible below.

If we haven't credited you properly for assets or code, or you want something of yours removed from the mod, or you know who created some imported code or audiovisual aspect of this mod, -PLEASE- let Xterra or SilentZorah know- it'll be fixed in the next release.

Please *do not* re-use the sprites for the hunting shotgun or inferno shotgun without securing permission from Yholl or SGT Shivers first; they specifically ask that you clear the re-use of any of their original sprites with them. I have done so on my end; you must do so on yours should you wish to use them.

Also, if you're wondering who did the M_DOOM replacement, I did it myself. :-P Photoshop kicks ass.
